Information gathering meetings

Information-gathering Meetings

The HGC holds regular Information Gathering Sessions as part of their meeting structure.  The Sessions provide an important opportunity for Members to carefully consider a particular issue of relevance to HGC business and to debate and challenge some of the views which are expressed during the discussion.

A typical Information Gathering Session consists of presentations and questions, followed by a discussion session involving all those present.

We try to invite a range of speakers to present the different perspectives of a particular debate.  We also try to hear from speakers from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines in order to reflect the Commission’s terms of reference which state that the HGC:

analyse current and potential developments in human genetics and advise Ministers on:

-          their likely impact on human health and healthcare;

-          their social, ethical, legal and economic implications.”

We have arranged our Information Gathering Sessions by subject and these appear on the left hand tool-bar.  To read a summary of the discussion on a subject of interest to you, please click on the subject name.
