Nicola Drury is an experienced genetic counsellor with a particular interest in the education of health professionals on genetic issues.  She has worked with individuals and families with a wide range of genetic conditions.

She has been involved in two innovative educational projects exploring new ways of influencing both the education and practice of health personnel.  She was the genetic counsellor on a Department of Health funded project to explore new ways in which specialist genetics services could help support primary care professionals as part of the first wave of genetics service development projects 2002-2003.  From June 2008 to September 2009, in addition to her genetic counselling role, she was employed  by the  NHS National Genetics Education and Development Centre for 2 days a week as a Genetics Education Facilitator for the ‘Training the Trainers’ project. This project aims to raise awareness of the relevance of genetics, increase the knowledge of educators on all aspects of human genetics, and integrate genetics competences/learning outcomes into the curricula of pre- and post- registration courses as well as support the development locally and nationally of appropriate teaching.
