Seventh HGC Annual Report

The seventh HGC Annual Report has been published. The report details the Commission’s work from April 2007 to March 2008. Key pieces of work for the Commission over this period include:
• publication of the report More Genes Direct: a report on developments in the availability, marketing and regulation of genetic tests supplied directly to the public,
• the Citizen’s Inquiry into the forensic use of DNA and genetic information
• an Independent review of the HGC
• a response to the Government consultation paper on its proposals to consolidate and modernise the UK’s anti-discrimination laws in which the HGC argued for a qualified prohibition on genetic discrimination to be included as part of the proposed Single Equality Bill

The report also contains details of work done by the HGC’s five monitoring groups – the Genetic Discrimination, Identity Testing, Intellectual Property, Databases and Genetic Services Monitoring Groups plus full documentation of all of the HGC’s statements, consultation responses and other correspondence produced during this period.

The annual report has been published in electronic format this year and can be down loaded here. If you would prefer a paper copy please email the HGC Secretariat: hgc@dh.gsi.gov.uk
