Embryo research and the HFE Bill

In February 2007 the Human Genetics Commission published a statement supporting proposals to allow the creation of human-animal 'hybrid' (or 'admixed') embryos for research under strictly controlled conditions.  Recognising, however, that this was an area of substantial public concern, the Commission also highlighted the need to engage with, and take account of, the views of the public on this matter.

This statement was followed by a response to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (the UK's regualory body for human embryo research)  which further developed these views.
